The Void (formerly ‘The Great Void) is a death metal band from the greater New Orleans area consisting of members of various disbanded groups (Necrophagus, Din Burlesque, Scrotesque, and Gorgonopsian).
Originally playing a slower, dirtier sounding brand of death metal, the band got its start with Ryan Jurgelsky on drums and Vincent Brown on guitar. Jason Meserole and Paul (weezy) Underwood were later added on guitar and vocals, respectively. with this line-up they began playing shows around the area and gaining some reputation along the way as having a sound unlike the others in New Orleans, blending the lines of doom, death, and grind.
Jorge Caicedo then entered to fill in the empty bass spot, and with him, the music grew a little more technical.
Brian DiVincenti then replaced Ryan on drums and brought with him a precision and speed previously not heard in the band’s sound.
Jason left the band shortly after to persue other musical opportunities (playing drums for The Bills and Donkey Puncher… and is currently 1/2 of the goliath that is Solid Giant).
Phill Willis took over his spot on guitar, and with that, the sound changed almost entirely (thus the slight name change) into a juggernaut of crushing death metal with an undeniable groove and dark melody commonly associated with black metal acts of the past… but let’s not worry about labels.
Jorge left the band to persue a gig as the new bassist for metal gods EXHORDER.
Today THE VOID keeps pressing forward and doing more to blur the lines of the metal genres into a sound of their own and provide a live show sure to make you want to simultaneously laugh and punch the stranger standing next to you…
… if you’re not banging your head, you might already be dead
